PeachDish
Founded: 2013
Annual sales: $281,200
The plan: Both subscription and
non-subscription plans. A standard
PeachDish box includes two meals
with two servings of each. In one
week, meal prices ranged from $18 to
$38 per serving.
Shipping: Free to subscribers;
otherwise $12 per box
Emphasis on: Southern-style,
seasonally inspired recipes, developed
by well-known Southern chefs.
Of note: PeachDish emphasizes
sustainability in its operations; for
example, it uses as much recycled,
recyclable and biodegradable
packaging as possible (including
non-toxic soluble gel for its freezer
packs, for example). The ingredients
for PeachDish's recipes are sourced
directly from hundreds of small-scale
Southern farms and food artisans.
Plated
Founded: 2012
The plan: Subscription service, with
kits available for two, three or four
meals per week. Two servings per
night starts at about $12 per serving;
four servings per night starts at about
$10 per serving.
Shipping: Free for purchases of $50
and up
Emphasis on: Gourmet recipes, created
by a chef trained at Le Cordon Bleu.
Of note: Plated was featured on Shark
Tank in 2014, and attracted a deal
from one of the investors, but it never
went through. It has been successful
in attracting other investment
funding, however.

good enough for us," Stickney said.
The sensors allow them to check
for temperature fluctuations, which
could indicate that a driver has
turned off the refrigerator for a while
to save on fuel. That helps Chef'd
make decisions about whether
or not they will continue to use a
particular carrier.

Purple Carrot
Founded: 2014
The plan: Subscription plan. A threemeal per week plan that serves one
to two persons costs $68 per week;
a two-meal per week plan that serves
three to four people costs $74 per
week. Shipping: Free
Emphasis on: Plant-based recipes
that emphasize healthy eating
and sustainability (conserving
water, reducing emissions,
protecting farmland).
Of note: Quarterback Tom Brady has
worked with Purple Carrot to develop
a line of TB12 Performance Meals -
primarily plant-based - that are similar
to what Brady himself eats. The meals
are plant-based, gluten-free and made
without any dairy, eggs, seafood and
processed meats.
Sun Basket
Founded: 2014
Annual Sales (Hoovers): $100 million
The plan: Subscription plan with
Classic menus (two people for $11.49
per person) or family menus (four
people for $10 per person). Subscribers
can pick and choose from various
types of meals, including paleo, lean
& clean, chef's choice, gluten-free and
vegetarian. Family menus include "Kids
Can" steps and activities.
Shipping: Free

produce, responsible sourcing (grassfed, antibiotic and hormone-free meats
and sustainable seafood).

attracted a $9.2 million investment
by the consumer products company
Unilever Ventures.

near the world's busiest airport, we
essentially have distribution centers
at airports all over the country,"
said Winfrey. "A pallet leaves our
warehouse on a Monday morning, is
in LAX by midday, and can be met by
last-mile couriers, so we are really
shrinking the time and cost involved in
getting a meal kit across the country."
It takes anywhere from 24 to 36
hours for people to receive a meal kit
they've ordered.
