A Busy Summer at HomeAid Atlanta
May, June, and July were full of
events and projects keeping HomeAid
staff, board members, and volunteers
busy in support of HomeAid's mission
to build new lives for homeless families
and individuals through housing and
HomeAid Atlanta kicked off of the next
phase of construction of the Phoenix
Pass complex at a groundbreaking
ceremony in Conyers on May 14.
Phoenix Pass provides transitional
housing and programs for women
with children in Rockdale County.
The new project will add a second
eight-unit apartment building and as
well as expand the community center
with Builder Captain John Cooper of
HomeAid proudly participated in the
annual United Way Innovation Forum
to seek synergy among non-profits
working to end homelessness on June 4.
HomeAid Board Chair, Alec Rickenbaker
gave the opening remarks and served
on a panel focused on innovative
approaches to housing.
On June 5, HomeAid and Builder
Captain Mike Smith of Harcrest Homes
celebrated the completed construction of
a six-unit apartment building at Rainbow
Village providing additional transitional
housing for women with children.
Among many other donors, members of
the Greater Atlanta HBA's Professional
Women in Building Council contributed
to the Rainbow Village project by
donating interior design services
and furniture as well as coordinating
the first ever "HomeAid Stock the
House" campaign to collect household

With the generous support of Greater
Atlanta HBA members and community
partners, the 14th Annual Essentials
Drive wrapped up on May 8 with delivery
of 160,000 "essential" baby products to
18 Atlanta organizations working with
homeless and low income families.

On June 22, HomeAid hit the links for
the 13th Annual Housing the Homeless
Golf Tournament at historic East Lake
Golf Club. HomeAid's major fundraiser
was a great success.
HomeAid celebrated the newly
renovated Drake House in Roswell on
July 23 with a dedication ceremony.
Builder Captain Vince Longo of Vincent
Longo Custom Builders and supporters of
HomeAid and The Drake House were on
hand to celebrate the new addition and
total renovation project which added a
new classroom facility and Teen Center
among many other improvements.
On July 24, HomeAid partnered with
Bank of America to assemble and donate
1,200 CareKits at the Atlanta Community
Food Bank. CareKits contain items such
as soap, a toothbrush, deodorant and
other hygiene items needed by people
experiencing homelessness. This was
HomeAid's third partnership with Bank
of America to assemble CareKits. To
date, HomeAid and Bank of America
have donated more than 2,200 CareKits
to Atlanta organizations serving
homeless families and individuals.
Special thanks to all the Greater
Atlanta HBA members for all that you did
this summer to help HomeAid build new
lives for Atlanta's homeless.
