Paige Cline Blazes Trail to Petroleum
Industry Career
BY DANIEL BALL

FUTURE OHIO GAS ASSOCIATION
Scholarship students will follow the trail
Paige Cline has blazed. Not only is she one
of five inaugural recipients, but Cline also is
the first OGA scholarship winner to secure
a job in the natural gas and oil industry.
Cline recently moved from her home
town of Pomeroy to Houston, Texas,
to launch her career as a Petroleum
Engineer with Marathon Oil Corporation.
Cline graduated this spring from Marietta
College with a bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering.
Cline applied for the OGA Scholarship
program with the goal of becoming a
Marathon reservoir engineer. Throughout
her college career, she demonstrated certain characteristics of a motivated student,
driven to achieve success in the oil industry.
For example, along with a full-time
class load, Cline was involved with her
college's local chapter of the Society of
Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Society
of Women Engineer (SWE). In her spare
time, Paige enjoyed volunteering for organizations and programs such as the local
Hospice Foundation, "Biking for M.S.", and
"A Walk for Down Syndrome."
In 2016, Cline interned for Marathon Oil
in the engineering department and earned
high praise from her supervisors. "During
my time as Paige's supervisor, I have seen
her display the skills and qualities necessary
to succeed, both at Marietta College and in
her future petroleum engineering career,"
wrote her supervisor, Philip John.
As an intern, Cline worked on a number
of projects in the span of a three-month
period that earned her supervisors' appreciation. For example, she researched and
implemented a previously un-trialed technology for combating downhole corrosion,
specifically H2S and iron sulfide precipitation. Even without a background in corrosion chemistry, she was able to quickly
develop an understanding of the work at
hand and its applications.
At the conclusion of her internship, Paige
was offered to come back and intern for

Marathon's Reservoir Team. "My career
objective is to become a Reservoir Engineer
working for Marathon Oil," Cline wrote in
her scholarship application.
"I enjoyed working as a Production
Engineer and now my mind is set to
becoming a Reservoir Engineer," she adds.
"Once I have achieved this goal, I plan to
become a supervisor in either the reservoir
or production team. My strong work ethic
and determination are what helped me
earn these internships and they will be
the driving factor throughout my career."

"The Ohio Gas Association is proud
to feature Paige Cline as one of our initial OGA Scholarship recipients," notes
President Jimmy Stewart. "We wish
Paige the best of luck in her career as
she continues on her path to becoming
a Reservoir Engineer."
The OGA launched its scholarship program in 2017 to help educate the next generation of leaders in the natural gas and
oil industry. "With Paige's achievement, it
is rewarding to see the initial fulfillment
of that goal."
