2013 GPTQ Quality in Construction Awards Recognizing outstanding performance in quality transportation construction EACH YEAR, GDOT recognizes outstanding performance in several areas that impact its collective ability to produce quality transportation for the traveling public. For GDOT's fiscal year 2013, GDOT proudly presented ten different categories of awards, which recognized six outstanding GHCA contractor members. Congratulations, all! Smoothness for Asphaltic Concrete: New Construction Winner: Everett Dykes Grassing Company Inc. This project consisted of 9.091 miles of widening and reconstruction consisting of grading, drainage, base and plant mix resurfacing on US 1/SR 4, beginning at the Bacon County line and extending north of SR 15, and included construction of a total of four bridges. This project had a final average Laser Road Profiler value of 475 mm/km on the 9.5 mm Superpave surface mix for 36 lane miles. The prime contractor was McLendon Enterprises, with Sean Scott serving as project manager. The paving subcontractor was Everett Dykes Grassing Company Inc., and Kenny Hardy was the paving superintendent/foreman. Smoothness for Asphaltic Concrete: Resurfacing Winner: Pittman Construction Company This project included 22.205 miles of plant mix resurfacing, single surface treatment paving and shoulder rehabilitation on SR 77 beginning at SR 12 and extending to SR 10. There were 44.10 lane miles of resurfacing tested, which had a final Laser Road Profiler value of 396 mm/km. This represented a 65.1 percent improvement over the preconstruction ride quality of 1135 mm/km.
