A New Conversation The Georgia Transportation Alliance pursues a new transportation funding strategy for all Georgians By Seth Millican, Director, Georgia Transportation Alliance FOR OVER A hundred years the Georgia Chamber of Commerce has worked with state and local government to create one of the nation’s best transportation networks. In the same light, the Georgia Highway Contractors Association (GHCA) and its members have been advocating for and building Georgia’s transportation system since 1937. As a result, our state is home to the world’s busiest airport, the nation’s fastest-growing port, and the South’s premier road and rail network. But Georgia’s record growth has slowed, and our economy, like much of the nation’s, has yet to fully recover. State and federal transportation dollars are dwindling, and our transportation network, which never truly kept pace with our growth in boom times, is in desperate need of upkeep and expansion. Together we must find new ways to leverage our transportation assets while investing in the infrastructure necessary to maintain our leadership position. We here at the Georgia Transportation Alliance (GTA) find ourselves uniquely positioned to support these efforts on behalf of all Georgians. About GTA GTA was founded as an affiliate of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce in 2011, and GHCA was one of its key founding members. Georgia’s first organization focused solely on long-term transportation solutions related to economic development, traffic congestion, safety, and our fastgrowing logistics industry, GTA draws its membership base from stakeholders who are directly involved in the transportation industry, including service providers, product providers, vendors, and infrastructure users.
