Cornerstone - Spring 2015 - (Page 7)

FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD 2015 Presents New Opportunities to Lead and Serve The opportunity to lead AGC Houston for a second time as AGC Chairman presents a true honor for me. In 2005, I served as AGC Houston Chairman and it is both humbling and energizing to serve again, particularly during such an exciting time for Houston and the commercial construction industry. This is an exceptionally proud moment for our chapter as well: AGC Houston has captured the national spotlight as Chuck Greco, Chairman, Linbeck Group, LLC, now serves as President of AGC of America; and AGC Houston President/ CEO, Jerry Nevlud, is President of the Executive Leadership Council, which represents all the AGC chapter executives across the country. In its 92-year history, AGC Houston has never known this level of prestigious leadership. Warren S. Bellows Construction Corp., was the last AGC Houston member to proudly serve as AGC of America President in 1946. With 2015 in full swing, I am thankful that our industry has fully recovered from the 2008 economic recession. We are truly blessed to live in a city that remains at the top of almost every list related to economic growth: number of jobs and building permits, a backlog of work for architects, housing starts, cranes in the air-you get the picture. Houston is the place to be if you are in the commercial construction business, and we are leading the nation in planning and building activity. While the future for the construction industry looks bright, it is also important to recognize the challenges that still exist within our industry. With the volatile nature of the price of oil, currently hovering around $46/barrel, we know from the 1980s that speculative development without sound business prowess is foolhardy. Today, we have avoided the mistakes from the past and enjoy a much better economic vantage point. Continued, sound growth in our community ensures continued growth for our industry. Our challenges surrounding the workforce will continue to be a strong focus. We must support long-term solutions like our Construction Career Collaborative initiative, which AGC Houston started five years 2015 Board of Directors Bob Adair - Construction EcoServices James Bryant - Anslow Bryant Construction, Ltd. A Houston native, he attended Texas A & M University and graduated in 1975 with a B.S. in Building Construction, immediately joining Linbeck after graduation. Bill has learned the business from working on a variety of project types such as, airports in Panama and Houston; hospitals in Beaumont, Lake Charles and Houston; hotels in Fort Worth, and office towers in Irving, San Antonio and Houston. He worked as a subcontractor managing Linbeck's concrete structures group, Xavier, building concrete structures in Miami, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix and Minneapolis. Bill has served Linbeck in many roles and is currently Executive Vice President, focused on Healthcare Sales. Bill and his wife, Joan, have been married 28 years and have three grown children and four grandsons. The children still at home have all been rescues and consist of three dogs and two cats. While enjoying their time with family and friends, Bill and Joan spend most weekends in Brenham on their ranch. An occasional elk or deer hunt fills out his passions.
