For numerous years he was a trustee
for the Texas State Ironworkers Pension
Fund, sat on the Iron Workers Joint
Apprenticeship and Training Committee,
and chaired the AGC labor negotiating
committee.
These days, you'll find Don at his ranch
in Brenham, where he raises Beefmaster
cattle. Don and his wife of 57 years, Suzann,
also spend time at their lake house in
Palestine and love being with their children
and grandchildren.
In 2014 Don and Russell established the
Suzann and Don Jones '61 and Mary and
Russell  Jones  '84 Endowed Scholarship
for the Texas A & M Department of
Construction Science.
James Stephens,
Tribble & Stephens
Construction
James Stephens has been an integral
member of AGC since he and Jay Tribble
formed their company in 1972. Originally
from Big Spring, Texas, Stephens moved
to Houston in 1965 after graduating with a
Master's Degree in architectural engineering from the University of Texas.
James met Jay Tribble in 1963 when they
were assigned to work on a class project in
Architectural Engineering at UT.
A friendship soon developed and the
two discussed the idea of moving to
Houston, gaining experience working for
a general contractor, and eventually forming their own company.
James began his career in 1965, working
for Paul Bell, P.G. Bell Company, in Houston.
It was Bell who encouraged Stephens to
become active in AGC. According to an
interview in November 2010 taped for AGC
Houston Chapter's "Oral History Project",
Stephens spoke fondly of Bell, recalling
that "He encouraged me to come and be
part of AGC, (and actively involved). He
(Paul Bell) got me on one of the committees that were negotiating with the iron
workers. (It) was an eye opener for a young
kid like me, sitting down at the table, and
negotiating all the union iron workers'
business agents."
When tribble and Stephens Construction was formed, there were only three
open shop contractors out of about 90
general contractors in the AGC Houston
chapter: Brown & Root, Stewart Brothers
