Spotlight Shines on Barbecue Cook Teams at the 25th AGC Houston Barbecue Cook-Off THE COMMErCIAL CONSTruCTION industry came together at the Sam Houston Race Park for the annual Barbecue Cook-Off and Fair April 1-2, 2016. AGC Houston members competed in categories that included best theme and best hospitality, crawfish, margarita, salsa, open dish, ribs, brisket, and chicken. Sanctioned by the Texas Gulf Coast BBQ Cooker's Association, the 25th annual event drew more than 8,000 attendees. On Friday night, teams hosted bands and DJs under their tents and competed for crawfish, margarita and salsa. Team pitmasters and chief cooks stayed up into the small hours of the night, tending to their barbecue pits and smokers for the meat competition. On Saturday, cooks put on their game faces as they began to judge the bloody mary, chicken, ribs, brisket and open dish categories. Families filled the venue as kids enjoyed face painting, rock wall climbing, inflatable bouncers and a kiddie train. At 4:30 p.m., teams gathered at the AGC grand stage to hear the final competition results. Jerry Nevlud, AGC Houston President/CEO, recognized the sponsors, volunteers and 2016 AGC Houston Barbecue Cook-Off Committee. Once the Texas Gulf Coast BBQ Cooker's Association representatives tabulated the judging scores, Jeff Johnston, Tellepsen, announced the winners. Congratulations to Berger Iron Works for taking home the Overall Grand Champion award and to Clarissa Lang, MLN Company who received the 2016 Ralph Morton Award. ■ 24 Cornerstone
