Cornerstone - Summer 2016 - (Page 7)

FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD Planning for a Greater Chapter BILL SCOTT, III LINBECK GROUP, LLC As we reach the midpoint of the year, all indications clearly show that the Houston economy is amazingly resilient to the softness of the energy industry. Education facilities and healthcare continue to lead the majority of the commercial construction activity, as are entertainment facilities and other institutional work. It is exciting to see tower cranes in most areas across town: the Texas Medical Center, The Galleria, West Houston and all parts that make up the 655 square miles of the city. As our region continues to grow-an expected population growth of 19 to 39 percent over the next 14 years, depending on which forecast you are reading-it is important that AGC Houston does its part to meet the ongoing trends in our industry. Through the outstanding efforts of our committees, the Chapter continues to fine-tune its products and services to meet the needs of its members. As Chairman of AGC Houston, I am really proud of the effort of the Board of Directors for its leadership and guidance in advancing the chapter as the strongest 2016 Executive Officers Chairman - William H. Scott, III, Linbeck Group, LLC Vice Chairman - James Bryant, Anslow Bryant Construction, Ltd. Secretary - Tadd Tellepsen, Tellepsen Treasurer - Brandon Meyers, SpawGlass Construction, Corp. President/CEO - Jerry Nevlud, AGC Houston Summer 2016 leadership organization in the commercial construction industry. To that end, I would also include the work of the Finance Committee and its resolve in ensuring that the association has adequate resources to remain the "voice of the industry." It is this type of leadership that has me excited as we begin planning strategically around the issues that, correctly addressed, will ensure that we remain relevant well into the future. As we gear up for our Strategic Planning session later this year, a number of ongoing discussions have commenced, centering on issues such as member parity, funding models, generational and diversity evolvement, collaborative environments, sustainable workforce and overall chapter structure. The AGC staff has begun gathering information on these specific areas as well as developing survey questions to get member input. I hope we can count on your feedback if or when you are asked. At our last strategic planning session held in 2012, we came away with clear direction on three main points: * Re-establish a committee structure to better deliver products and services * Engage a more diverse (generational, race, gender) membership * Continue support of the Construction Career Collaborative (C3) I can honestly say that the advancement in each of these areas has been outstanding. But realistically, what we have accomplished is the equivalent of setting down the base layer. The future relevance of the chapter will be dictated by how well we build on what was put in place over the past three and a half years. Lastly, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the commitment to the chapter that so many of you have given. Your commitment that has made AGC Houston the leader of commercial construction that it is in this region. On behalf of the AGC Houston Board of Directors, you have my commitment, as we approach the next planning session, that we will do our utmost to deliver the best plan for the association's future. I hope we can count on each of you to help us as we move forward. ■ 2016 Board of Directors Doug Combes - Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing Ken Humphries - Humphries Construction Corp.
