for State Convention
AGC MEMBERS AND THEIR GUESTS,
representing 12 Texas AGC chapters,
gathered at the Coeur D'Alene Resort
in Idaho for the 40th Texas Building
Branch Convention. The event kicked
off Sunday, June 18, 2017 and wrapped
up on June  20 with the Outstanding
Construction Awards.
Monday morning began with the AGC
TBB General Business Session, featuring
Reps. Paul Workman (R-Austin) and
John Cyrier (R-Lockhart). They highlighted the 85th Legislature, which has
been dubbed the most contentious in
10 years. AGC TBB's Corbin Van Arsdale
moderated the discussion and was later
joined by AGC TBB President Mike Chatron
and Wade Long, AGC Contract Lobbyist,
who briefed attendees on the vital work
that was done to overcome hurdles and
support AGC's initiatives and bills.
Members also heard from Robert Bass,
Winstead PC, who educated attendees
on the updates of HB 3065 - Texas Lien
Law Modernization. The proposed new
lien law bill is modeled after one from
North Carolina, which is a web-based system that offers a clear process to see who
has filed claims, lien labor releases, etc.
AGC Houston member Curt Martin,
Peckar & Abramson, PC, spoke about the
new proposed HB 2343 which concerns the
Right to Repair Construction Defects and
the value Rep. Workman brought to the
House Business and Industry Committee
in defending it. Two years ago, AGC TBB
reached out to Martin to review construction defect claims processes and how to
resolve the Right to Repair Statute. While
the bill passed the House Business &
Industry Committee, it died on the House
calendar. AGC TBB hopes there will be an
interim study conducted to resolve this
