PAST EVENTS Leadership AGC Class of 2016 Kicks Off New Program Fourteen young professionals, representing the next generation of commercial construction leaders, headed to La Torretta Lake Resort in Conroe, September 24-25, 2015 to kick off the Leadership AGC program. In its second year, the nine-month program is designed to develop and grow future leaders, and gives participants an intensive experience that encompasses a broad scope of community and industry concerns. Leadership AGC was developed by officers and members of the Construction Leadership Council with guidance by Mike Holland, Marek Brothers Systems, Inc. and Jason Kopke, Marek Sawing & Drilling, LLC as well as members of the Leadership AGC Class of 2015. The two-day event began with an informal reception and orientation led by members of the Leadership AGC Class of 2015. Participants and alumni then headed to the residence of Mike and Susan Holland who opened their lake house to host a dinner. AGC Houston President/CEO Jerry Nevlud; Steve Mechler, Balfour Beatty Construction; and Leadership AGC Class of 2015 alumni spoke to the group about the program's significance. Angela Cotie, Gilbane Building Company, also spoke about ACE Mentor and the community service project the group tackles during the third Build It Forward event at Marek Brothers Systems, Inc. On September 25, Patrick J. Kiley, Kiley Advisors, LLC and past executive director of AGC Houston, spoke about the history of AGC and the local chapter. He also offered advice on the importance of serving on AGC Houston committees and local organizations. After Kiley's presentation, the group then headed outside, taking part in a variety of team-building exercises that focused on communication, trust, diversity, collaboration and overcoming obstacles. Mike and Kyle Holland and Jason Kopke helped to facilitate each exercise and the debriefing sessions. Patrick J. Kiley Excellence In Leadership Breakfast Forum Kicks Off New Season Members of the Patrick J. The Patrick J. Kiley Excellence In Leadership program will continue through spring of 2016 and culminate in May with the presentation of scholarships to high school and college students. To date, AGC Houston has given $393,000 in scholarships since the program began 19 years ago. 20 Cornerstone
