LEADERSHIP MATTERS

SUMMER IS beautiful in Canada -
especially in Alberta. We're fortunate
to have a huge variety of parks, festivals, campgrounds and attractions that
help us to make the most of our summer
months. But summer is also an opportunity to think about your next steps in
your career.
For many organizations, summer is a
slightly different pace than the rest of
the year. It's the perfect time to evaluate
what gaps you may have in your professional development, how close you are
to reaching your goals for the year, and
what capacity you have to give back to
your HR community.
CPHR Alberta has heavily invested
in expanding our professional development program for our members. Not
only have we doubled our complimentary webinar program in 2018, but we
launched a robust in-person professional development series this year as
well. We're confident that these valuable
new resources will help members advance
their careers, and bring back solutions
to their organizations.
New members are stepping up to
help advance our Association and our
profession  - I encourage you to get
involved as well. We've expanded the volunteer roles available with CPHR Alberta,
and are working to ensure these roles
provide quality experiences for you. From
our Chapter Committees and Editorial
Team, to our newly formed Social Media
Committee, these volunteer opportunities
are key to building a stronger community
of members.
In the coming months there will also
be two notices to members. First, our
annual Celebrating Excellence Awards

will open their call for nominations.
These awards provide important recognition for members who are leading
HR across Alberta, Nunavut and the
Northwest Territories. Too often we hear
of exceptional success long after it's happened. Make this the year to nominate
a colleague for the exceptional work
they've undertaken.
Secondly, CPHR Alberta is a member-led
Association; nominations for your Board
of Directors will open later this year. The
work that your volunteer Directors contribute to advancing our community is
invaluable. We are fortunate to have a
talented, cohesive and dedicated group of
HR professionals leading our Association.
Each year we require new members to
step up to this challenge. Please consider nominating leaders from you network to serve on the CPHR Alberta Board
of Directors.
Our recently released 2017 Annual
Report provides an update on the success CPHR Alberta has seen since initiating our five year business plan. The
momentum we've achieved through the
completion of the business plan deliverables is significant, and we've kept members in the loop with regular report cards,
online town halls, and announcements.
We're building a stronger HR community
together, and we're grateful for your continued support.
I'm proud of the success of our members, and our Association. Enjoy your
summer, and best of luck with the
remainder of 2018.
