"They do value having special programs
just for them," Lockard said. Not all seniors
are cost conscious, but price can definitely
be a sticking point for some when it comes
to spending their disposable income. Fortythree percent of older adults surveyed by the
National Council on Aging said that senior
discounts were an important tool in helping
them to manage their finances.4
Other industries have tapped into senior
loyalty and similar programs with success.
"All boomers seem to agree that airline and
hotel loyalty programs are important," Levie
said. The proliferation of discounts at restaurant chains, gyms and movie theaters,
just to name a few, shows that the same
holds true across the board. Not only can a
loyalty program be useful in drawing in new
boomer customers today, it's an important
component in keeping current customers as they age, according to Levie. With
10,000 baby boomers turning 65 years old
every day5, smart car wash operators will
want to extend their marketing efforts to be
sure they're building stronger, longer-term
relationships with this important demographic.
