These are just a few examples of local leaders in Kenya who developed their skills and augmented their knowledge through the IFP fellowship. Photo by www.kiefelphotography.com WOMEN WITH DISABILITIES represent one of the most marginalized, underserved populations in international development efforts, and their potential for leadership and their ability to transform communities is often overlooked. For the past 32 years, Mobility International USA (MIUSA) has been working to empower people with disabilities worldwide to achieve their human rights through international exchange and international development. MIUSA’s cross-disability training programs facilitate empowerment of grassroots leaders to be change agents in their communities across the globe. MIUSA’s Women’s Institute on Leadership and Disability unites women leaders with disabilities from around the world, primarily from developing countries. The three-week program held in Eugene, Oregon, offers unique opportunities to build leadership capacity, strengthen international networks for advocacy and support, and develop collaborative relationships. In workshops, site visits, and teambuilding activities, participants focus on topics such as project development, using the media, implementing policy and legislation, and working with development organizations.
