Dear Fellow ISTAT members,
Welcome to the Spring 2016 issue of Jetrader!
It's hard to believe that 2015 passed me by in a blur, but our event schedule
ended on an extremely high note, with nearly 1,600 members and guests attending our popular ISTAT Holiday Receptions on the first Wednesday of December.
I know many of you got caught up in the year-end rush to close various
transactions, but I hope you had a chance to spend time with your families and
recharge your batteries, as the "starting gate" has opened for business in 2016!
I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you and your families the
best of health, happiness and prosperity in the year ahead.
At ISTAT, 2016 is shaping up to be a very busy year. ISTAT Americas 2016 moved
up this year to begin at the tail end of February, and our conference committee has
been extremely busy through the holidays to put together another super program,
culminating with the presentation of the ISTAT Award to John Leahy of Airbus
at the President's Dinner. Heartiest congratulations to John, who joins a select
group of executives who have made extraordinary contributions to the industry!
I expect that we will again be setting records at all of our events, and that's
a tribute to the support shown by you, our members, and to the fantastic partnerships we have been fortunate to form with our corporate sponsors. Whatever
the event, I look forward to your participation and support in 2016. THANK YOU
from the bottom of my heart.
I'd also be remiss if I did not thank the many members who volunteer their
time and money to the philanthropic activities of the ISTAT Foundation. Under
the leadership of Damon D'Agostino of CIT, the ISTAT Foundation has brought
best practices into its review and approval processes and has broadened its
activities across the board.
2016 is also a year of change for ISTAT, transitioning the executive director
responsibilities to Julie Wichlin, following 10 years of leadership by former
Executive Director Ron Pietrzak. Julie has been drinking through a fire hose over
the past couple months, and has already been making a number of contributions
to our operations.
Half my presidency is already in the rear-view mirror, but that leaves me looking ahead to another great year of working with a super group of board members,
who only have the constant improvement of your membership experience at heart.
Thanks to all those who find the time to give back to the industry in between
their day jobs!
Please enjoy this issue of Jetrader. Lots to catch up on, including the state of the
aviation business in the United States, a first anniversary look at ISTAT University
and plans for the future, a look back at several Fall 2015 ISTAT events, and an
interview with this year's ISTAT Award winner, John Leahy - plus much more!
