There's no doubt in my mind that without a number of people at ISTAT
helping me, I wouldn't be nearly as successful as I have been. Whatever I
am and however you would define my success can largely be attributed to
my involvement in ISTAT.
at the founding of ISTAT, which started
with a group of 10-or-so people with an
idea and look at where it is today, the
growth is phenomenal. In the early days,
to get 100 or 150 people to an event was a
big deal. I don't think anybody would have
envisioned that you would eventually have
events with thousands of attendees. That's
beyond fathomable, at least in my mind,
from the original construct. But ISTAT
really helped my career. There have been
a number of people in ISTAT through the
years who took the time to help a relatively
young kid better understand the industry
and help me to be successful - and I'm
very grateful to all of them. I hope I have
been able to give back some... and that
I'll continue to be able to do so.
Jetrader: The ISTAT Award historically
recognizes those who have had a long,
successful career in the industry, and
you certainly fit the description. With
that said, what advice would you pass
on to those in the industry who aspire
for similar success?
JK: I guess if I had a message for the
folks who are early in their careers: if
you're young and passionate and if you
want to think about globally-complex
industries and everything that comes with
it, this is a wonderful industry and ISTAT
is a wonder forum. Get involved. Build
relationships and cultivate that passion
for learning from each other. There's a tremendous amount to learn in this industry,
and if I stayed in it another 50 years, I
would still have a lot to learn. There are
people out there who are willing to sit
down and help you and teach you. Find
them and listen to what they have to say.
For the more seasoned, alreadysuccessful folks, it would be: I hope everybody is at least thinking about taking the
time to help young people to understand
the industry and help them be successful.
Because there's no doubt in my mind that
without a number of people at ISTAT helping me, I wouldn't be nearly as successful as
I have been - and each of you can probably
say the same. Whatever I am and however
you would define my success can largely
be attributed to my involvement in ISTAT.
There are wonderful people in aviation, and
I'm so proud to be a part of it.
