session, which incorporated the audience
via the ISTAT mobile app - as did several
other panels throughout the event.
The Network Airline Panel took to the
stage next to discuss a range of topics
from pilot productivity, available capital
and fuel costs, with Andrew Levy, thenexecutive vice president and CFO, United
Airlines, Inc., commenting: "I don't lose
sleep over oil prices. It doesn't affect our
long-term plans."
Immediately following, Leverage - The
Financial Panel assembled and offered a
word of caution. "The financial landscape is
looking pretty positive right now, but that
obviously means that things will turn eventually. However, the things we're seeing
now as potential disruptors are all things
we've seen before," noted panel moderator
Pamela Hendry, advisory board member,
Hudson Structured.

Lessor CEO Panel, moderated by Robert Martin, managing director
and chief executive officer, BOC Aviation Limited; Peter Barrett, chief
executive officer, SMBC Aviation Capital; Alec Burger, president and
chief executive officer, GE Capital Aviation Services; Stephen Cook,
global head of transportation finance, executive director, Macquarie; and
John Plueger, president and chief executive officer, Air Lease Corporation.

Next, the final group of the day, the
New Equity panel, met on the stage to
discuss the "many different capital types
coming into the business." Panelists also
talked about the importance of "educating
investors that they're investing through the
full cycle of an aircraft," as noted by Ted
O'Byrne, chief investment officer, AerCap.
And although the education sessions
were concluded, the day was far from over
as the next event on the docket was a
perennial favorite - the Monday-night
networking reception. This year, attendees
visited the San Diego Air & Space Museum.
Afterward, those still looking to burn off
some steam and let their hair down made
their way to the always-popular Club ISTAT,
held again this year at Moonshine Flats.
Attendees were welcomed back on Tuesday
morning for a humor-tinged keynote presentation from Adam Pilarski, Ph.D, senior vice

president, consulting, AVITAS, Inc., where
he presented an argument that although
widebodies have traditionally dominated the
industry, "in many cases, narrowbodies are
taking their place. We often think that bigger is better, and that's not always the case."
Afterward, the Aircraft Remarketing panel
took to the stage to discuss the need for
long-term planning in the earliest stages of
a remarketing plan. "We need to be thinking about the remarketing plan even before
we buy the aircraft," noted Otto Verhoeff,
director, Castlelake (UK) LLP. "We need to be
creating as many options with an aircraft as
possible, and you can only do that if you're
planning very far in advance."
Following a morning networking break,
the Fleet-Planning Panel convened to discuss the topic from a cargo-centric perspective, with Joseph Fallon, director of fleet
development, air finance and networks, UPS
