One of the great
challenges of the
aviation industry is not
only the consumption
of all of that data but
creating intelligence and
valuable information
from which a ROI
can be expected.
about that particular journey and whether or
not that was related to price, at what price
points people purchase, what geographical
region people live in, etc. And that's just a
very simple beginning of a journey. When
the passenger goes through the journey,
how many times does he go back and look
at his reservation? How many times does he
consider buying an added-value item? You
can begin to see the type of information

we can gather about a passenger before he
even checks in. It is extremely valuable, but
it is like many of the data sets in aviation:
yet to be fully realized.
Now airlines pick up a wealth of information about not only their flights and
their aircraft and the performance of their
aircraft but also information about their
competitors. Aircraft manufacturers pick
it up as well.

There's a whole host of data around aircraft diagnostics. Twenty years ago, communication between an aircraft when it
took off and when it landed was limited. It
is now possible for airlines to assess maintenance requirements while the aircraft
is en-route, thereby reducing unplanned
schedule delays.
