Internships -

Why?

Cast your mind back to your early 20s: You
are a university student with an interest
in areas such as business, marketing, engineering, finance or law. You've decided
that you want to obtain an internship with
hopes of developing your career. How did
you seek out an internship?
Today, internships are offered to young
people to provide the opportunity to test
the waters in areas that they are keen to
know more about and help validate their
academic and career directions. For employers, many are burdened with tasks that can
be delegated to interns willing to take on
a variety of learning opportunities.
An internship works to the benefit of
both parties. Students receive invaluable
insight into an industry of their interest,
and an employer is offered the opportunity
to teach and develop future employees.
Benefits to employers include:
* The ability to evaluate the student for
potential full-time employment;
* Access to quality candidates;
* Students contribute new energy and
ideas to the work place;
* Students can provide temporary head
count to help with projects that can't
be covered by employees;
* Scheduling can be flexible to meet the
employer's needs; and
* Cost-effective
The challenging job market has made it
essential for university students to gain
real world experience prior to graduation.
A recent study has shown that a student
is almost twice as likely to have a job in
their field of study if they have completed
an internship.

The ISTAT Foundation offers university
students with an interest in the business,
marketing, engineering, finance or legal
areas of the aviation industry the opportunity to explore open internship positions
at ISTAT member companies by way of the
ISTAT Internship Portal. In the last three
years alone, the Foundation's Internship
Program has quadrupled its intern placements to 30 placements. The ISTAT membership is made up of over 4,000 members and
all members are encouraged to make use
of the ISTAT Internship Portal to identify
qualified interns.
Hiring an intern is easy! But are you not
sure how to pay for one? We can help there
too! The Foundation provides a stipend of
up to $2,500 USD to each intern placed
through the portal for travel and housing expenses - so you aren't limited to a
local intern. ISTAT member company Apollo

Aviation placed five interns in 2016 and four
in 2015. Three of the five interns in 2016
have been offered full-time positions in
the marketing, corporate finance and risk
management departments. Therefore, taking on a business, marketing, engineering,
finance or law student as an intern is critical to launching their career in the industry.
Adeline Hannerus, an MBA student at
Embry Riddle Aeronautical University,
Daytona Beach shared his experience
interning.
"During the summer (May-August), I
interned at AVITAS, Inc. as an aircraft
analyst intern in Chantilly, VA," he said.
"Honestly, I have nothing but positive
feedback for the firm. AVITAS took me in and
treated me as a full-time employee for the
entire three-month duration of my internship. I worked in the valuations department,
but I was allowed to explore the other parts
