Dear fellow ISTAT members,
It has been an exciting and productive
year for ISTAT. In 2017, we reached record
attendance at each of our ISTAT conferences
and, as I write this, are on track for record
attendance at our ISTAT Latin America
Forum and our global holiday receptions. In
addition, membership has achieved record
levels, with ISTAT now counting nearly 5,000
members around the globe, up 10 percent
in the last year. Our membership growth in
2017 was particularly strong in both Europe
and Asia, as we continue to emphasize the
global reach of the organization.
ISTAT EMEA in Edinburgh was a watershed
event for ISTAT - it was our first time moving into a large city-center convention center and attendance skyrocketed to a record
1,700 attendees. For perspective, at our
previous ISTAT conference in Scotland -

Gleneagles in 2004 - a scant 200 people
attended. Many thanks to our ISTAT EMEA
Conference Committee and to our ISTAT staff for their hard work and also to our
many sponsors for their support.
Also of note, ISTAT EMEA saw the first application of the "members between
jobs program," which offers complimentary conference admission to longstanding
members currently without employment. Feedback from the program participants
has been exceptionally positive. If you or someone you know are interested in
this program, please contact executivedirector@istat.org.
The continued growth in ISTAT membership and event attendance is a function, I believe, of ISTAT's following through on the principles summarized in
our new mission statement: "providing...members with the highest quality and
best-value networking and education opportunities in commercial aviation,
administering the industry's leading appraiser program, and investing in the
future through the ISTAT Foundation." While our mission statement is new, the
core principals it expresses have underpinned the organization since its founding nearly 35 years ago.
We are proud of the success of our organization, but we will never rest on our
laurels. Complacency leads to obsolescence and eventually irrelevance (anyone
remember where the industry used to gather each February in Europe?) and
ISTAT's goal is always for continuous improvement. As such, we look forward to
our hardworking ISTAT Americas Committee and ISTAT staff delivering an even
better member experience at ISTAT Americas in March 2018.
