activities, noting that the group had,
to date, awarded $5,662,435 in scholarships to 467 students and 61 non-profit
organizations.
The day's final session, the Aircraft
Finance Panel, took the stage next with
panelists working through a host of
industry issues, including the influx of
Asia-based financing sources. "We certainly see a wall of money coming in from
the East," said Will McCallum, managing
director, Standard Chartered Bank, "but
we are also seeing a lot of financing from
banks at the moment. And we are currently
seeing a huge appetite for any deal in the
Middle East."
At the conclusion of the day's sessions,
the ISTAT Women's Networking Reception
in Conjunction with IAWA, began - with
the official Networking Reception following shortly thereafter in the Hilton's
Grand Ballroom.

Later that night, a number of delegates gathered at the Roxy Prague for
the always-rocking Club ISTAT, with a few
brave souls joining the ISTAT band on stage
for a good time.

Maintaining Momentum
The following morning, delegates gathered for breakfast meetings in numerous
locations, including The Hub and Jet Fuel
Café, the ISTAT Bistro and The Deal Zone, as
well as in the Airline Lounge and dedicated
meeting spaces.
The sessions began again in the
mid-morning, with the ever-popular Boeing
and Airbus Debate featuring representatives from both manufacturers offering
an update on current activities and giving
a peek at future plans. "It's fair to say
that both manufacturers have stumbled
in bringing certain products to the market," said Jeremy Griffin, vice president,
global leasing sales, Boeing Commercial
Airplanes, "but both manufacturers have
a responsibility to protect the value of our

projects, and we're making adjustments
as needed." Isabelle Floret, head of leasing markets, Airbus, added that "Industry
growth during the past 10 years is roughly
equal to the entire United States population of 325 million," so some growing pains
are to be expected.
Following a morning coffee break,
panelists on a very well-attended new
session  - Making Aircraft Trading
Easier: Global Aircraft Trading System
(GATS)  - assembled to present a new
initiative designed to simplify numerous
elements of the global aircraft trading
processes. "No one is making a [profit] on
this," said panel moderator David Swan,
chief operating officer, SMBC Aviation
Capital. "This is an industry benefit, plain
and simple."
Up next, the Changing Times - Evolution
and Innovation in the Aircraft ABS Market
Panel met, with Rich Barnett, managing
director, Castlelake, noting that "There
needs to be a system of checks and balances when it comes to ABS. These assets
