Scholarship Program

As Chairman of the scholarship committee, I am pleased to report that the 2013
ISTAT Foundation Scholarship Program has
been launched. Invitations have been sent
to more than 150 educational institutions around the world, requesting that
each school submit an application for the
student they consider best qualiﬁed and
most deserving. Through this process,
the committee receives for consideration
a roster of candidates that are truly the
"best of the best."
This year the schools and the committee will both beneﬁt from the introduction
of a new online application tool that will
make the application process more efﬁcient
and ensure that submissions are complete
and timely. We appreciate the donation of
time and expertise by Warren Willits, our
former Foundation Chairman, who designed
and programmed the online system. Willits
received valuable contributions and assistance from Ron Pietrzak and Alyssa Anfuso
at SmithBucklin.
As in years past, the success of the
scholarship program rests on the generosity
of the Foundation's Roundtable Donors, the
sponsors of our named scholarships and
ISTAT itself. For 2013, these contributions
will allow us to fund nearly $245,000 in
scholarships, the largest award level in the
history of the program. On behalf of the

recipients, I am privileged to thank all of
the sponsors, donors and supporters who
make this milestone possible.
All members of ISTAT can be proud of
the positive impact that Foundation scholarships have had on scores of young men
and women over the past years. Recipients
of our scholarships are the potential leaders
of the next generations of aviation professionals. It is particularly gratifying to see
former scholarship recipients beginning
their careers by earning jobs with ISTAT
member ﬁrms.
I want to send a special thanks to the
members of the scholarship committee.

These volunteers, all members of ISTAT,
devote their time, energy and passion to
individually reading, evaluating and scoring
the dozens of detailed applications we receive
each year. If you have attended the ISTAT
Americas conference and have met any of the
scholarship recipients that have been present
as guests of ISTAT, you will have seen, up
close, some of the best examples of the great
work done by the committee. I will ﬁnish by
announcing that, as a reﬂection of the truly
international nature of our scholarship program, we plan to have scholarship recipients
also attending future ISTAT Europe and ISTAT
Asia conferences.
