In his 13th annual Whisky Bible, Murray names Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye as his pick for the 2016 World Whisky of the Year, giving it a designation of a record-tying 97.5 out of 100 points. This remarkable recognition marks the first time a Canadian whisky has ever received this honour. The maturing barrels experience extreme temperature swings, causing the wood to expand and contract with that fluctuation, which slowly adds to the whisky's developing character. Distilled to this day in the Coffey Still (named after the man who invented it, Aeneas Coffey), it's the only known still of its kind in North America.
