statewide-standard commission on the back end. With the partnership with
Apple, purchases net commissions two to four times the state standard in
Campus Development Funds, depending on the product.  Similar commission/rebate structures have been built with Dell. 
Chief Information Officer, Dr. Bob Orr, was intrigued by the opportunities
an on-campus technology store could provide.
"The Innovation Station is an example of partnership, two different organizations coming together to meet an institutional need.  It's been extraordinary
to be part of such a successful effort," said Orr.
For students, Innovation Station is all about customer service.
"The majority of our computer sales are from incoming freshmen," said
Cruey. "We learned that one of the biggest questions students and parents
have prior to arrival in the fall is about what kind of computer will fit the needs
of their students."
Cruey developed partnerships with academic departments to make the
process easier for students. By learning about the academic requirements of
various majors, Cruey can recommend the perfect new computer for a student.
"We may not be able to beat the big-box stores on price, but we can offer
something they can't: personal service," said Cruey. "We get to know what our
customers need and then help them understand all their options to make
a smart purchase."
Again leveraging the partnership with IT, Innovation Station is able to offer
more than sales. The IT help-desk, called SERVE, is located inside the store.
Not only do students and parents know a purchase will be supported after
the sale, the presence of SERVE increases foot traffic in the store as well.
Students can come to SERVE for help with both software and hardware
concerns. SERVE technicians, some full-time professionals and some student
workers, are certified to make repairs to Apple and Dell platforms.
"We provide extremely valuable services such as on-site repairs and being
an information resource for incoming freshmen as well as the whole GC community," said Cruey.
By working in partnership, Auxiliary Services and Information Technology
were able to meet the strong demand for a full-service technology store
offering a comprehensive array of products and services that benefit the
university and our students - something that neither department could have
done successfully without the other.
Cindy McClanahan, CASP, is the director of
marketing and communications for auxiliary
services at Georgia College. McClanahan
coordinates and executes the marketing efforts
for multiple units including dining, parking, and
transportation, card office, technology store,
bookstore, and mail services. McClanahan
earned the CASP designation 2015.
