Corporate Partnerships

Focus on

university partnership

h at does it mean to be a corporate
partner, a true partner? From my
viewpoint, the transactional process
that happens between buyer and customer has
evolved from a simple exchange of goods into a
consultative partnership. Through my 18 years
with Microfridge®, the most impactful change
can be seen in the university market. Our goal
is to cultivate and keep lifelong partnerships
with our university counterparts. This can
only be realized through a relationship of
professionalism, integrity, and trust. We believe
in fostering relationships to match the longevity
of our products.
Spending a good part of my career as an
academic advisor and provider of goods to
higher education professionals, I can tell you
it is a rewarding experience and the learning
never ends. It wasn't always that way. When I
first started my career I was consumed with my
"presentation", what I was going to say and how
I was going to "sell" my bag of goods. I quickly

learned that while it was important to have corporate product and program education, it was
infinitely more important to listen to what my
customers had to say and respond accordingly.
This task was not easy; I do have the gift of gab
and I could rush through an elegant dissertation of features and benefits with hat and cane
in tow. I am admittedly, a work in progress. The
first days in my chosen career were challenging.
The turning point for me was when I was able to
cut through the noise and really start to listen.
Once I started listening to my customers, I was
able to help. Relationships were formed. I am
proud to say that I have watched resident hall
managers excel to the level of housing director.
I have developed relationships, and ultimately
close friendships, over my tenure and I am grateful for every one of them.
Having these relationships and working
directly with university professionals, student
groups, and auxiliary managers to understand
their particular campus needs, I have the ability

to design programs to positively impact the student experience. Programs offering fundraising
opportunities, marketing assistance, and on-site
service support - all developed as a result of
taking the time to understand the needs of my
university customers and providing solutions
that sustain partnerships over decades.
During the hot summer months, housing
professionals are diligently working on moving
students on and off campus within a restricted
amount of time. Their focus is on turning rooms
over in a perpetual new student rotation which
often times involves new construction, room
renovation, and constant housekeeping. This
is all in preparation for the biggest transition of
the year, fall move-in. Their focus is on ensuring
students have a smooth transition from home to
campus without a hitch. As corporate partners,
our job is to develop products and services to
complement and enhance that move from home
to residence hall.
