CHAPTER NEWS AGC Michigan Takes Part in National Safety Stand-Down Event I View past issue of Michigan Constructor at www.naylornetwork.com/mag-nxt/ n May, the AGC Michigan (AGC MI) along with The Christman Company and MIOSHA hosted a "stand-down" event at the Michigan Capitol in Lansing. The Christman Company is the lead contractor on the current $6.4 million dome and cupola renovation project of the Capitol (masonry restoration, perimeter sheet metal roofing replacement, exterior window repainting, and select roof drain replacement). Approximately 60 construction tradesmen participated and were provided a demonstration of proper fall protection equipment and safety awareness by AGC's safety director Paul Wrzesinski. In addition, remarks regarding the importance of safety on all Michigan jobsites were made by MIOSHA Director Martha Yoder and The Christman Company's safety director Don Staley. The 2015 National Safety Stand-Down: To Prevent Falls in Construction began on May 4. During the two-week stand-down, May 4-15, employers and workers will pause during their workday to focus on preventing fatalities from falls through talks, demonstrations and training. Falls are a leading cause of death for construction workers in the state and the nation. Between 2010 and 2014, 41 percent of the fatalities in Michigan's construction industry consisted of falls. As Michigan enters the construction season, MIOSHA is reminding employers and workers about the importance of fall prevention. ◗ 8 http://www.naylornetwork.com/mag-nxt/
