MASBO NEW EXECUTIVE MEMBERS The Executive is pleased to welcome Wayne Shimizu back in the role of Provincial Director - Urban Finance. Wayne has been a very active member of MASBO, having served three previous terms on the Executive and in other capacities including the FRAME Committee, Minister's Advisory Committee on Education Finance, Convention Committee, President Elect, President, Past President, Past Presidents' Council, and the Publications Committee. In addition, Wayne has written articles for MASBO News, he has participated as a presenter representing MASBO for various professional development sessions, and he was the recipient of the 2013 Grey Owl award! Wayne believes in leading by example, developing leadership abilities in others, and thinks that it is very important for everyone to participate in the association. For many years, Wayne has held the position of Secretary-Treasurer at Seven Oaks School Division and has worked in education since 1984. Outside of work, Wayne is active with his family including keeping up with the various activities of his daughters, and sports. Abe Wiebe has been in the construction industry for most of his working career, and with the Garden Valley School Division (GVSD) since 2009. Currently, he holds the position of Capital Projects Supervisor, responsible for looking after all funded projects from conception to completion. He has had the pleasure of seeing two new schools to completion as well as many additions and renovations within GVSD. In 2014, he became involved with Workplace Safety & Health for the division as a co-chair, and he continues to work in both of these areas. Abe was a student in the GVSD school system, as were his children, and now his grandchildren! He wanted to play a part in his local school system by providing quality learning environments for our future generations. The construction of Prairie Dale and Northlands Parkway Collegiate were challenging but also rewarding. "Now when I walk through the schools, I am greeted by my grandchildren and I know that they, along with the rest of the students, have more opportunities to grow through these schools and what they offer." As a MASBO member, Abe has been on the Resolutions Committee for the past two years and is enjoying his new role on the Executive as Regional Director - South Interlake region. When Abe is not at work, he enjoys golfing, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with family and friends. He believes that, "Education is the best provision for old age." Jake Wall has joined the MASBO Executive in the capacity of Provincial Director - Maintenance, replacing Claude Plante. Prior to this, Jake served as the Regional Maintenance Director - South Interlake Region and has been a MASBO member since 2006. He has worked for Garden Valley School Division since 1990, where he began as a head custodian and worked through several positions until 2014 when he was promoted to Custodial/Maintenance Supervisor. The biggest challenge in his role has been keeping up with the growth in the division that has occurred during the last number of years. Jake's entire career has been in the maintenance field, and it gives him a great deal of satisfaction to be able to fix things. Jake describes himself as a family man, and he and his wife Eleanor have three children, all of whom have been married in the past 14 months. He travelled as far away as Zimbabwe in order to attend their weddings! In his free time, Jake enjoys a round or two of golf. ■ 13 * MASBO NEWS 2016
