continued from page 22 power supply with built in redundancy. Being located in Winnipeg's north end, the Seven Oaks School Division's Board Office, which houses the iSeries, has become increasingly vulnerable to power outages. While researching the move to a data centre, Seven Oaks approached the Manitoba CIMS clients who were using the ASP service to see if they had any interest in sharing an iSeries that would be located at a Data Centre. We knew that a shared iSeries was a possibility because this model has existed in the Central Okanagan with three school districts having a combined student population of over 50,000 students sharing an iSeries in Kelowna. River East Transcona had just purchased a new iSeries and decided not to participate and Winnipeg School division also decided not to participate. The remaining divisions, Seven Oaks, Lord Selkirk, Interlake, Hanover, Turtle Mountain and Portage decided it would be worthwhile to continue these discussions with a goal of achieving ownership at a slightly reduced cost in a state-ofthe-art facility that provides increased response time, multiple access points, hardware security, cloud backup and a disaster recovery plan. A group of Secretary-Treasurers and ICT Directors from each division met at MERLIN to discuss housing the iSeries there, as each of the divisions had a connection to MERLIN. We also met with EPIC, who had just been bought by MTS and had announced that they were going to build a data centre. All present at the meeting felt the meeting went very positively. MERLIN in Index to Advertisers the meantime decided that their core business was not hosting equipment, so opted not to participate as a hosting option. After an extensive analysis of costs and benefits, the decision was made to contract with EPIC/MTS to house the iSeries at their Data Centre. The Data Centre was about a year away from completion and we explored moving the iSeries to the existing MTS Data Centre, but determined that two moves with a year didn't make sense. We decided to delay the move until the new Data Centre was ready. The Seven Oaks Director of ICT, Gerry Corr, volunteered to be the project manager and with assistance from Craig Feeke, Manager of Information Technology from Lord Selkirk, planned and coordinated the move to the data centre with IT staff from the other divisions, Take Two, MERLIN and MTS. In May 2015 when the Data Centre opened, the division began testing and preparing for the move. In October, the first transition occurred and all of the Seven Oaks administrative computer operations moved from our division office to the MTS Data Centre. This project would not have been successful without a lot of hard work and communication from Take Two, MTS, MERLIN, the partnering school divisions Information Technology and Secretary-Treasurers and the Seven Oaks' IT department. The remaining school divisions will begin migrating to the data centre in January and the plan is for all divisions to be migrated to the data centre by the time this article comes out in print. ■ ALARM SYSTEMS & SUPPLIES Fontaine Electric Ltd..............................Inside Front Cover www.fontaineelectric.ca ARCHITECTS Prairie Architects Inc.......................................................21 www.prairiearchitects.ca BARRISTERS, SOLICITORS & TRADEMARK AGENTS Fillmore Riley LLP..................................Inside Front Cover www.fillmoreriley.com CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS Craig & Ross Chartered Accountants...............................9 www.craigross.com CONSULTANTS MWI Consultants, Inc..................................................... 26 www.mwiconsultants.ca Stantec Architecture Inc.........................Inside Back Cover www.stantec.com EDUCATIONAL SOFTWARE SRB Education Solutions Inc.............................................8 www.srb-intl.com ENGINEERS WSP Canada Inc................................................................5 www.wspgroup.ca ENVIRONMENTAL CONSULTING Manitoba Eco Depot............................Outside Back Cover www.manitobaecodepot.ca FLOORING/SCHOOL GYMNASIUMS Big Sky Enterprises.........................................................19 GENERAL CONTRACTORS Winnipeg Building & Decorating..................................... 25 www.wpgbldg.com GYMNASIUM FLOORING, SEATING & EQUIPMENT Centaur Products Inc..............................Inside Back Cover www.centaurproducts.com ROYAL STEWART LTD.................................................... 25 www.royalstewart.com INSURANCE ADJUSTERS James Dube Spraggs Adjusters........................................9 www.jdsadj.ca JANITORIAL EQUIPMENT REPAIR & MAINTENANCE PFP Sales & Service Inc.........................Inside Front Cover www.pfpsales.ca PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT Jeff Jackson Playground Pro.................Inside Back Cover www.playgroundpro.ca ROOFING CONSULTANTS M.J.
