MASBO
SAYS
In 2018, MASBO says farewell to four valuable long-time members and honours them for their service with life membership in
the association. Congratulations to Anita, Fran, Gaylene and Tom, and best wishes in your next chapter!

Anita Werbowski

Fran King

Anita began her career with the former River East School Division #9 in 1987 as the
divisional accountant, becoming accounting supervisor and then the business manager.
Following amalgamation in 2002, Anita became the Assistant Secretary-Treasurer of
the River East Transcona School Division. She will be retiring in October 2018.
From the start, Anita displayed her innate ability to introduce new practices or make
changes to existing systems, always with a goal of continuous improvement. Anita
ushered in a divisional accounting software and continues to champion the software
applications, expanding its capabilities to all schools/departments to enhance efficiencies and accountability.
Anita is most happy when she is able to meet challenges head on and find solutions.
As she puts it, "I can't leave this alone. There has to be a better way!" It is this resolve
that has made her a valuable member and leader of the business administration department and, in turn, makes all who work with her that much better.
After 30 years of service, Anita is bidding farewell to her co-workers at River East
Transcona School Division to enjoy a well-deserved "vacation." While others may see
it as retirement, for Anita it means a year-round vacation of fun in the sun, whether
that be in Arizona in the winter or the cabin at Bird Lake in the summer.

Fran started her career as an educational assistant with Transcona Springfield School
Division in 1993 and, roughly a year later, took on a clerical position at Springfield
Middle School. In 1998, she became the school division's purchasing agent. Her
previous experience working in schools provided her the foundation required to
serve the schools.
In 2003, a portion of Transcona Springfield School Division amalgamated with Sunrise
School Division and Fran became that school division's purchasing agent. Hiring a
purchasing agent was something new for Sunrise School division and she was up for
the challenge, becoming their purchasing manager in 2006.
In 2013, she took on the position of purchasing supervisor at River East Transcona
School Division. Although still a position in the area of purchasing, there were many
new endeavours she took on, such as overseeing a divisional print shop that also services Seven Oaks School Division.
Fran became involved with sustainability in 2008 and chaired the MASBO Sustainable
Committee at its inception. She has enjoyed and relied on the contacts she has made
through MASBO.
Fran is looking forward to retirement; she plans to do some volunteer work, tap into
her creative side, travel during Manitoba winters and spend more time with family
and friends. "Continue to enjoy life" will be her motto!
