Gaylene Schroeder-Nishimura

Gaylene began her school business career as the Supervisor
of Accounting with the Louis Riel School Division in 2004
and became the Assistant Secretary-Treasurer for the Seven
Oaks School Division in 2006. Prior to that, Gaylene spent
many years in the apparel/garment industry but wanted to
make a career change so that she could have a positive impact
on the lives of others, which she has definitely done since
entering education.
Gaylene has served the Louis Riel and Seven Oaks School
Divisions admirably and has been an exemplary representative
of MASBO as a member and executive member. She has been
a Finance Rep, Regional Rep, Vice-President, President and
Past President and has served on many MASBO committees
including the convention committee and currently the past
presidents' council.
Gaylene has embraced her work with the Seven Oaks
School Division, providing her wealth of knowledge, strong
accounting abilities, extraordinary work ethic, compassion,
common sense and sense of fairness daily for everyone in the
Seven Oaks community working in the areas of accounting,
audit, budget development, negotiations and payroll, but
most importantly Gaylene is a strong advocate for children,
ensuring equity is provided to all.
In retirement, Gaylene will be able to spend more time with
her parents who reside in Portage la Prairie, her husband Rich
and adult children Toshio and Kiyoko.

Tom Henry

Tom Henry began work as a mechanic in McCreary in
November of 1985 with the school division. He continued
there until September of 1998, when he accepted the Director
of Operations position with the Portage la Prairie school division. Tom has always been a huge supporter of MASBO and
was not hesitant to help out whenever he could, both officially
and behind the scenes.
For many years, the Transportation Conference hosted
after-session carpet bowling tournaments. The stories are
legendary, and occasionally these tournaments would go
all night, wrapping up when the morning staff for the hotel
arrived for work. Tom volunteered to store and transport the
rolls of carpet and bowls to the Transportation Conference
for about 10 years, until 2001.
Golf is a great love of Tom's, and he always participated
in the AGM and regional MASBO golf outings. Often, Tom
was solely responsible for making all the arrangements for
these sessions, including booking the courses, collecting registrations, soliciting prizes and making the presentations. If
someone else agreed to take on the duties, they often tapped
Tom on the shoulder and asked him for help. For 8 to 10 years,
Tom helped MASBO ensure the golf events happened.
Tom served in official capacities with MASBO as well. In
2000-2002, he was the Regional Transportation Committee
Rep. In 2002-2004, he was the Regional Director for Southern
Region; and in 2004-2008, Tom served as the Provincial
Transportation Director. During these years, Tom also
worked diligently with the Central Bus Tender Committee
and Government to ensure the best possible purchasing results
for all participating divisions.
Tom Henry retired from the Portage La Praire School
Division in September 2017 after 32 years of service.
