PUBLISHED DECEMBER 2015/MHI-Q0116/1780
Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that it's 2016. The new year is always a time
to reflect and, more importantly, look forward.
It seems like only yesterday we were concerned about implications of Y2K, when
the calendar change spooked fears of impending disaster-but in reality it's been
16 years!
Today, through advances in technology and increased awareness of the impact we
have and can have on environments we, as an industry, have a tremendous opportunity. By improving the environmental and social performance of supply chains,
companies can improve business performance-all while promoting corporate
values and creating brand equity.
No one company controls their entire value chain, so collaboration between
firms and their suppliers is vital for end-to-end transparency and sustainability to
work. Best-in-class supply chains are collaborating with their suppliers and making
sustainable supply chains a top priority.
These efforts are creating cost savings, sparking innovation and creating win-win
opportunities along supply chains. Bottom line, sustainability is good business-and
that is what this issue of MHI Solutions is about.
This issue also includes a special feature on millennials working in the supply
chain. This article tells the stories of seven young supply chain professionals who
are transforming our industry and changing the way the manufacturing and supply
chain profession is perceived.
Millennials have been called the "sustainability generation" and they have big
demands and high expectations from the businesses they work for and buy from.
By 2025, millennials will comprise 75 percent of the global workforce, so it would
be wise to listen to what they have to say if you want to succeed in the future.
We are also previewing MODEX 2016, the industry's largest supply chain expo
showcasing over 800 leading solution providers. MODEX is where manufacturing
and supply chain professionals come to discover the latest solutions and establish
partnerships with key suppliers. They also come to learn and network with their
peers in over 150 conference and networking sessions. MODEX 2016 will be held
April 4-7 in Atlanta.
While incorporating sustainability into a company's supply chain is complex,
failure to act may indeed be the biggest risk of all. I hope you enjoy this issue, and
that it inspires you to collaborate and continuously improve your manufacturing
and supply chain operations.
Cheers!
