She calls herself lucky to have had
both male and female mentors who have
encouraged her to embrace the attributes she brings to the job as a woman.
"Being a female in this industry, I definitely passed through some barriers,"
she recalls. "It's important to empower
women and help them realize that they
don't have to manage like a man to do
well. And companies need both men
and women to make supply chains work
effectively. I work for a company where
women and men are treated equally;

I don't feel at a disadvantage being a
woman working here."
Further, the other people she's had
the opportunity to work with over
her six-year supply chain career have
been inspiring.
"It's definitely the variety of people
I've gotten to work with that has been
the most rewarding part of my supply
chain career," she says. "With a job in
this field, you get to meet such a mixed
bunch of people from all over the world
with all different kinds of backgrounds."

Additionally, Wilmshurst-Jordan finds
herself continuously impressed by how dedicated people in supply chains are to their
jobs and their colleagues, and how willing
and eager they are to go the extra mile.
"When you work around those sorts
of people, you want to do good for the
team. Some of these operations are 24/7
facilities, with people working through
the night and getting up at crazy hours to
meet customer demands," she explains. "If
you're around those sorts of people, it gives
you a completely different outlook than
the more typical 9-to-5 jobs. You become
a bit more like a tightly knit family, really."
Although her British accent might
sound unusual to some, WilmshurstJordan hopes that it reinforces the fact
that supply chain is an industry that is
becoming increasingly interconnected-
and in many instances it transcends borders, unifying both teams and companies.
"And, being British, I definitely feel that
global perspective."
Exposing students at the high school
level to the field through training programs is key she adds, suggesting that if
students learn about supply chain's career
opportunities early on, it might give them
more direction in their schooling.
"After reading the stories on the
#iWorkInTheSupplyChain website, it's
clear that every kind of person works in
the field, and you can be successful as long
as you work hard," concludes WilmshurstJordan. "Supply chain opens lots of doors,

of motivated and engaged people, this is
a great field to work in."
