ocial media marketing is a
powerful strategy that you
may want to incorporate in
your event promotion. Social
Media Examiner surveyed
3,700 marketers for the
2015 Social Media Industry report. Of the
3,700 surveyed, 90 percent found that
social media marketing lead to increased
exposure, while 77 percent found it lead
to increased traffic and 69 percent found
it developed loyal fans.
What is the key to a successful social
media marketing plan? A successful
content marketing component.
According to the Content Marketing
Institute, content marketing is defined as
a technique of creating and distributing
valuable, relevant and consistent

content to attract and acquire a defined
audience. As an event or meeting
planner, you may often wear the hat
of a marketer. How can you implement
a successful social media strategy to
promote registration, drive people to the
event website, increase event awareness
and make attendees excited to attend the
meeting or event?
A strong content management and
distribution plan may be a strong element
for you and your team to consider. Below
are several tactics to keep in mind when
developing your event marketing strategy.
Videos on Facebook tend to get a
greater organic reach than a typical post.
As a team, it is important to discuss the
production quality and the concept of the
video. There are many directions you may
take with your video; here are some of our
* Event Teaser: Create a teaser using
a slideshow creation tool such as
Animoto or Apple iMovie. How can you
drive people to your event? Incorporate
statistics, speaker images and photos
of the event from the year before.
* Podcast Interviews: Pitch your event
story to a radio podcast and coordinate

staff member. If you can't coordinate a
