#day in the life EXPLORING OLD AND NEW IN LONDON NAME: Deborah Kelly MPI ROLE: Member of Membership Committee, MPI UK & Ireland Chapter DAY JOB: Business Development Manager - UK, London & Partners BASED IN: London DAY IN THE LIFE: My day usually begins at 6:30 a.m. and, after passing by the historical Cutty Sark (which is a stunning event venue too!) on the way from my flat in Greenwich to the Tube, I watch the motley crew that are Londoners during my short ride to in to central London. Most mornings begin with a client breakfast event; this morning I was a guest of Carlson Wagonlit's as they presented a hot topics event on the future trends within the business travel sector. I then headed over to the Business Travel Show for a series of client and partner meetings before checking out the rest of the exhibition. 18 @MPIGNY SPRING 2015 Once back in the office, the team meets for a daily briefing and to run through key priorities. I'll then catch-up on emails, client briefs and projects - this could be anything from researching events, preparing a presentation or planning a client site inspection. My lunch break usually involves a quick walk around the block to refresh my mind; in 30 minutes, I'm able to take in a range of worldfamous sites including the Tower of London, City Hall and Borough Market. I'll then have a bite to eat whilst catching up with colleagues in the brand new Traveltech Lab and café in our office; the Lab provides space for entrepreneurial travel, tourism and hospitality start-ups and is a great networking opportunity too! I'll spend the afternoon working on my trade show project - The Meetings Show, a must attend event for the UK inbound and outbound meetings industry. This involves recruiting partners for our stand - one of the largest and busiest at the show, working with clients to become part of the Hosted Buyer Programme and developing a client FAM trip. Later, I'll spend some time with my colleague, Jarmila Galikova, as we're both members of the membership committee for MPI's UK & Ireland Chapter. Together we'll review new members and welcome them to the community, as well as supporting to retain existing members. After a busy afternoon, sometimes I forget that my office is sandwiched between two London icons ... one of the oldest (Tower Bridge) and one of the newest (The Shard), but when I look up and see them poking up between the buildings of 2 More London, I'm reminded why I love working for the CVB of London! Whilst traveling to an evening event, I'll take a few minutes to catch up on all of the day's industry news and developments. Most evenings are spent attending client events, venue showcases or networking with industry colleagues at events such as MPI Networks - which is one of my favourites!   @
