#industry news MEETINGS INDUSTRY BUILDING GLOBAL MOMENTUM BY MICHAEL DOMINGUEZ MEETINGS MEAN BUSINESS LEADS THE EFFORT IN THE UNITED STATES TO SHOWCASE THE MEETINGS I n just a few weeks, leaders from across the continent in the meetings industry will join together to lead the first annual North American Meetings Industry Day (NAMID) on April 16, 2015. In the United States, the Meetings Mean Business (MMB) coalition will be leading this nationwide day of advocacy, spotlighting the substantial value derived from business meetings, conferences, conventions, incentive travel, trade shows and exhibitions, and will engage with policymakers, industry elites and business leaders. The MMB coalition has partnered with organizations across Canada and Mexico to host events in communities all across their respective countries. MMB was created in 2009 to showcase the incredible value that business meetings, travel and events bring to the U.S. economy. The goal of the campaign in 2009 was not to promote but to protect and defend the industry from unfair attack. The coalition of industry leaders pushed through that trying time, showed the industry's incredible value and reset the tone of the conversation. Now in 2015, this group of dedicated leaders is redoubling the effort with a focus on creating one voice to communicate the undeniable value that business meetings, events, trade shows, incentive travel, exhibitions, conferences and conventions bring to all sectors of business, government agencies and the economy. To actively engage with stakeholders, the media and key policymakers, the MMB campaign was built on the platform of Visit NAMID at www.MeetingsMeanBusiness.com to learn more about local events planned across the United States, Canada and Mexico on April 16, 2015. Follow and participate in the digital conversations at @ MeetingsMeanBiz on Twitter and by using the hashtags #MMBusiness with #NAMID. Download the MMB app, available on iPhones and Android devices, to access industry resources and to stay updated on NAMID activity.  20 @MPIGNY SPRING 2015 INDUSTRY ON APRIL 16, 2015 three pillars: creating personal connections, driving positive business outcomes and building strong communities. The MMB coalition is comprised of leaders from the greater travel industry as well as the business organizations, major hoteliers, cruise companies, professional associations and destination marketing organizations. Its members span all facets of the face-to-face meeting and events industry, which have come together behind a common goal: providing the resources, tools and information to show the real impact the industry has on businesses, economies and communities. NAMID is an expansion of the successful efforts in Canada who have for 20 years held their annual Canadian National Meetings Industry Day. The event has now grown into a North America-wide collaboration with the support from the United States and Mexico. We are excited to be involved in such a meaningful day that unites our industry not only across the United States, but also across Canada and Mexico, communicating the critical role in connecting people and driving positive business results through face-to-face interaction. Across the continent we will demonstrate how meetings build personal relationships, drive positive outcomes and support strong communities. As thousands rally across the continent, our objectives are to define and shape the meetings and events profession in the future; help raise the industry's profile; and discuss the economic impact of meetings with people who are outside the industry. It is thrilling to celebrate the importance of an industry that MMB is so passionate about, and to join hands with our partners in Mexico and Canada to make our message louder and more powerful than ever. As we march forward, we are excited about the momentum we have leading into the first annual NAMID and look forward to making this an event marked on all of our calendars for years to come. @ http://www.MeetingsMeanBusiness.com
