QUALITY IN CONSTRUCTION AWARDS 2012 2012 Quality in Construction Awards E ach year, the National Asphalt Pavement Association recognizes excellence in asphalt paving with its Quality in Construction (QIC) Awards. The award has three categories — projects using less than 50,000 tons of asphalt, projects using more than 50,000 tons of asphalt, and airport pavement projects. Starting with the 2012 QIC Awards, additional recognition is being given to projects for their incorporation of sustainable and innovative practices. For 2012, 205 projects completed by 85 companies were honored with a Quality in Construction Award. Ninety-seven of the projects were singled out for their use of green construction practices, such as incorporating reclaimed and recycled materials and using warm-mix asphalt.
