NAPA and the Industry Care A silent auction at the annual meeting will help support the NAPA Care Emergency Benevolent Fund By Kelly Kanaras "I t just warmed our hearts that the national association reached out to help one of their brothers in a time of need. The expression, the tears, the thanks, you have no idea what this means to us that the whole industry would come together to help us out emotionally and financially. It went a long way." These words of gratefulness come from Paul Tate, Vice President of Operations at Rieth-Riley, after the NAPA Care Emergency Benevolent Fund provided financial assistance to the family of one of their workers who was killed on a job site. Tate personally delivered the check to the family and was witness to their sincere appreciation. That's the goal of NAPA Care - to provide a helping and caring hand in the midst of a 52 * View past issues online at tragedy, and send the message that the industry cares. The fund operates under the auspices of the National Asphalt Pavement Association Research and Education Foundation (NAPAREF), and was established by the Associate Member Council. NAPA Care Chairman Roger Sandberg says, "The idea came from the Associate Members. We wanted to put together a program that had a significant impact on the industry; one that would last a long time, and benefit members and families." The program has indeed aided members and families. Since its inception in 2012, it has benefited 14 families in their time of need, including the family continued on page 54
