leadershipdevelopment Young Leader Profile " I love that every day brings new opportunities and challenges. What My Association Does: The North Carolina Retail Merchants Association (NCRMA) is the leading advocate and business resource dedicated to promoting a positive legislative and regulatory environment for the retail industry - enhancing members' opportunities for success. We are the expert on NC retail laws. NCRMA members have the exclusive benefit to call on our legislative team at any time - we work on their behalf, meeting directly with state lawmakers and regulators to assist them and making sure elected officials understand how their actions affect businesses in our state. Number of Members: 1,800+ Staff Size: 20 What I Do: As the Director of Events and Social Media I am a jack-of-all-trades. I am responsible for the planning of all events for NCRMA and its twelve affiliated companies including the Carolinas Food Industry Council, SC Retail Merchants Association, Carolinas Organized Retail Crime Alliance and First Benefits Insurance Mutual. On any given day I can be researching meeting locations, booking travel, selecting menus, updating websites and posting on social media. Meeting attendees do not realize how much goes into planning events; they show up, attend sessions, network and eat. During this time I am running around worrying if the font on the name badges looks right, thinking about the temperature in the meeting rooms and making sure the meal has no mayo or onions. I am very passionate about what I do and I know I am meant to follow this career. 28 success || july/august 2016 " What I Like About My Job: I love that every day brings new opportunities and challenges. The staff at NCRMA is more like a family and it's nice that we come together as a team to serve our members. I enjoy interacting with our members and learning more about who they are and the passion they have for the retail industry. The variety of my position allows me to get involved in many aspects of our business which helps me grow as a professional. My Proudest Work/Life Moment: My proudest life moment would be working as a student equipment manager for the NC State football team from 2006 - 2010. GO WOLFPACK! Why I decided to get involved with FUEL: FUEL has provided me an opportunity to network with other young professionals in the association world. The round table meetings and social events are a great way to bounce ideas off of one another and meet new people. One Piece of Advice for Someone New to the Association World: Learn the mission and purpose of the association(s) for which you work. You can best serve your members if you understand the industry they are in and ways your association serves them. Do not be afraid to talk to board members to learn more about what they do and why they got involved. z Name Amanda Wujcik Association North Carolina Retail Merchants Association Title Director of Events and Social Media Working With Associations Since April 1, 2015 Contact Information 919-832-0811 NCretail @NCRMA
