youth livestock scholarships awarded T WeNty-SeVeN North Carolina students have been awarded 2016 NC State Fair Youth Livestock Scholarships, Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler announced. The scholarships are designed for high school seniors and college students who have participated in the junior livestock or market turkey shows at the NC State Fair. The scholarships were funded by sponsors of the annual NC State Fair Junior Livestock Sale of Champions. "Because of strong support of the 2015 Sale of Champions, 27 scholarships, valued at $2,000 each, were awarded this year," said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. "I'm so appreciative of the support of our sponsors and others who made these scholarships possible." Hog Slat, Neese's Country Sausage, Smithfield Farmland, Prestage Farms, JC Howard Farms, Duplin Marketing, Mt. Olive Livestock and Alltech, along with the NC Pork Council, were among the 2015 sponsors. A selection committee evaluated applicants based on their involvement with NC State Fair junior livestock shows, academic achievement, extracurricular activities and an essay.
