President's Message Celebrating Our Accomplishments CRYSTAL COLLINS PRESIDENT, NCTA Even considering these accomplishments, there is still work to be done to advance the organization and to discover efficient and effective ideas that will make the differences that benefit this industry. t the completion of my first five years at NCTA, I am pleased to share with you the results of the great progress we have made during that time. As the membership moves forward with a new mission statement, strategic plan and Association rebranding, we can celebrate our incredible accomplishments and advancements. Among the most noteworthy are: Enhanced Financial Stability - Sold the 219 W. Martin Office; changed the fiscal year to annual calendar; changed dues payment structure to annual calendar; and implemented an annual CPI increase. Improved Membership Productivity and Volunteer Involvement - Membership has increased on average 6 percent year over year, volunteer participation has increased on each committee, we have reinstated the Allied Committee, created Emerging Transportation Leaders Committee, implemented the Call on Washington and the Call on Raleigh programs, created an NCTA Heavy Haulers working group, created the Trucking Operations Management degree education working group and reinstated publication of the Tarheel Wheels magazine. Additionally, Annual Conference attendance has increased from 112 attendees in 2010 to more than 350 including children in 2015. We have created a new information-focused Annual Conference formatted program and increased sponsorship revenues year over year. Increased Influence & Representation - Stakeholder on the NCDOT I-95 Tolling Advisory Committee, stakeholder on the NCDOT Emergency Management Private Partnership Advisory Group, stakeholder on the NCDOT Strategic Highway Safety Plan, stakeholder on the NCDOT Freight Planning Committee, stakeholder on the NCDOT 2040 Statewide Transportation Plan. NCTA has enhanced its continuing partnership with the state law enforcement and agencies, and I have been honored as 2014-2015 chairman of the Trucking Association Executive Council Region II. Legislation - Established respect and a leadership role on trucking-related issues among legislators and peers, passed the Military CDL 90-day extension bill, passed no tolling on interstate highway existing capacity, stopped the increase on the sales tax cap on equipment and passed intrastate carriers require a USDOT number. Improved Operating Productivity Revised the NCTA By-Laws, purchased a database, created a website and implemented an accounting system. Even considering these accomplishments, there is still work to be done to advance the organization and to discover efficient and effective ideas that will make the differences that benefit this industry. That work can best be undertaken in an environment of continued stable governance and mutual trust. Every day I look back and am amazed at the important hard work of all the members I have had the honor of serving. I am proud of what the NCTA staff has performed. I am extremely proud of our efforts in moving NCTA forward. Together we have achieved much - and will achieve more. My personal thanks to all of you for your commitment to NCTA, and especially for your support, continued trust and confidence. www.nctrucking.com I FA L L 2015 I 7 http://www.nctrucking.com
