Prior to February 2009, the marina was a collection of dilapidated, rundown docks on wooden piers with ramshackle gangways and crumbling infrastructure used for years by the U.S. Navy as a fuelling depot. The joint venture team of Grifﬁth/Dutra transformed the old site into a modern 90-acre marina with hundreds of new boat slips, docks, and state-of-the art landside improvements for the Port of Los Angeles. It is now one of the most sophisticated and artistic recreational marinas on the West Coast. For their work on this $124-million project, Grifﬁth Company and The Dutra Group, both AGC of California members, along with the Port of Los Angeles, were presented with an Alliant Build America Award for Environmental Enhancement. The project involved the complete reconﬁguration of the layout of the marina through a combination of dredging, excavation, and compacted ﬁ lls on land. Seven hundred new boat slips were installed. To protect the land improvements, crews constructed 3,000 linear feet of sea walls,
