In Celebration of the World Series
THE WORLD SERIES IS the ultimate game for any Major League
Baseball (MLB) player. Despite the name, it has never included any
teams outside of the United States and Canada.
Every strike brings me
closer to the next home run.
The first World Series was played in 1903.
In 1904, the World Series was not played because the National League champions
the New York Giants refused to play the American League champions the Boston
Pilgrims, due to a rivalry between teams.
The Boston Red Sox became the first team in history to come back from a 0-3
deficit in the playoffs and go on to win 4-3.
The 1989 World Series between the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland A's
was postponed for 10 days after Loma Prieta, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake, rocked
The Chicago Cubs have not made an appearance in the World Series since the
end of World War II in 1945, making it the longest dry spell for any team.
We're supposed to be perfect on our first day on
