❱❱ MEMBERSHIP PROGRAMS Start a More Meaningful Conversation Update Your Profile BY ALISON LOUGHLIN, NPMA MEMBERSHIP MARKETING MANAGER L et's say you've been invited to a party. You smile, turn to the person next to you and say...nothing. So your new friend has no idea what interests you. You are stuck in a one-sided conversation, bored by topics that might interest someone else but fail to inspire you. If you had shared a little something about yourself, it might have been a very different exchange. Maybe you would have found some common ground, created a genuine rapport and steered the talk away from topics that make you want to yawn. You may not realize it, but the information in your NPMA user profile allows NPMA to have an intelligent conversation with you. According to Janay Rickwalder, NPMA's V.P. of Communications, Marketing and Membership, "the topic codes help us ensure you receive information about the things that interest you the most." When you join NPMA, the user profile developed for you includes your contact information but that's not enough to understand what interests you-it's just the beginning. In 2015, NPMA invested in a new database which can not only maintain information based on past attendance and purchases, but gather information on the topics members want to learn about, so that it can be shared later. Most NPMA members are just learning about this feature and the majority still need to update their profiles. If you fall into that group and you want to let us know more about you, from NPMA's website, go to the Member Center and from the dropdown list select: Update Your Profile. Just remember your UserID is your email and your password is "npma" (unless you changed the settings when creating your profile). Log in and update your contact information, fill in the demographics and select the topics you are interested in hearing about. If you describe your position as Executive, count on receiving different information than if you select Technician, since your profile will indicate that events with management topics will likely interest you more than hands-on pest management. Share your social media links with NPMA and you'll receive real-time updates at events, great photos and access to a community of like-minded-people. Finally, select topics of interest and you'll help us ensure you receive information about the things that interest you the most. From Bed Bugs to Veterans in Pest Management, there are over 30 topics to choose from. If you have administrative privileges, keep going and under Manage My Group at the top of the page you can find a directory of the people currently listed with your company. You can add new people under Membership Management or share your company and fleet size and give us additional service areas for our consumer website's Find-A-Pro under Company Information. Today only about one-third of NPMA members have an updated user profile, while the other two thirds have yet to let us get to know them better. It pays to not be in that silent group, according to Rickwalder, "The more information we have about you and your company, the more personalized we can make your membership experience!" ● '' You may not realize it, but the information in your NPMA user profile allows NPMA to have an intelligent conversation with you."
