Will WIFIA be funded this year
- the House and Senate EPA funding
subcommittees should announce their
decision to fund WIFIA in the coming
weeks. Many of the key leaders on the
50 * Third Quarter 2014
appropriations committee making the
decision will see their states or districts
lose funding if WIFIA is funded as
opposed to dedicating the funding to
the SRFs (including Senators Shelby and
Reed and Representatives Rogers and
Clavet). WIFIA will have the effect of
diverting funding from the most needy
projects to less needy and corporate
water projects.
Fix EPA funding campaign - launched
recently when the North Dakota Rural
Water Systems Association's Senator
Heitkamp (Democratic sponsor of S. 864)
began the process to "hotline" the bill for
unanimous consent (UC) consideration on
the Senate Floor. The Senate Republicans
(led by Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker)
have cleared all but one Senator. Make
sure your Senator is supporting S. 864.
