equip each employee with an early
warning signal and the ability to
detect the presence of a hazardous
chemical they may be exposed to.
FORMAL EMERGENCY PLAN
As emergencies arise, it is important
for all employers to have a formal emergency plan in place that covers any possible scenario. A thorough emergency
plan usually includes an incident commander and company protocols for
contacting the local rescue departments
and internal departments. It should also
include specific information to be given
to the emergency responders, including
the nature of the emergency, the type of
rescue that is needed and procedures
for safeguarding the affected area and
muster points. Attendance should be
taken at the muster point to account for
all personnel. Keep in mind that every
chemical has different properties and
hazards; it is important that you are
prepared to handle any hazard present. Have spill kits located in strategic
areas so that you are ready to respond
when an incident arises. It is extremely
important to conduct drills with your
employees so that handling emergencies
POOL CHEMICAL STORAGE
Storage of pool and spa chemicals
is governed by local, state and federal
laws and regulations, local fire and
building codes and NFPA codes and
standards. Start with the Safety Data
Sheet; it will list the storage requirements and precautions for the specific
chemicals you have in your warehouse.
Housekeeping is imperative in your
chemical storage area, as well as fire
protection and rotating your stock (the
oldest goes out first). Here are some
things to remember:
