on BMO Field

ttention sports fans!
Have you ever sat back on game day and
found yourself wondering how you would go about
expanding and enhancing an aging stadium within
its existing structure?
For Neil Barrows, Senior Project Manager at PCL
Constructors Canada Inc. (Toronto), that dream became a
reality when he was tasked with leading an aggressive twoyear renovation and expansion of BMO Field to transform
the open-air, horseshoe-shaped venue into one of the top
stadiums in Major League Soccer (MLS).
The challenge? Beyond bringing a bare-bones venue to
world-class standards with additional seating, amenities
and the addition of a full-size canopy roof, one of the many
challenges was to charge the accelerated construction
plan around an active event roster, including the Toronto
FC home schedule, the 2015 Toronto Pan Am Games, the
Honda Indy Toronto and the Canadian National Exhibition.
An aerial image taken January 27, 2016 demonstrates progress on the east, west and south canopies. The temporary blue shoring will be removed when the roof
structure is complete.
