t has been five months since our AGM in New Orleans, and I am
proud to report that the OGCA staff has been busy representing
our members on several key issues and initiatives.
COR™ has been a key initiative for several years now and
continues to be promoted by the OGCA to the buyers of construction services. The OGCA has been helping our members get ready
through mentoring workshops and education.
We continue to promote safety with our industry friend and
partner Rob Ellis of My Safe Work. Recently, we visited Oakville
Hydro and Mohawk College with Rob. We have had great support
from the "Jersey of Courage"-wearing OGCA members at these
events. It reinforces that safety is not proprietary, and we must
work together to better the Industry. By the time this article has
been published, the OGCA and My Safe Work will have announced
their League of Champions initiative. All members will have the
opportunity to be part of this highly visible safety promotion. We
are all advocates for safety awareness and education and we
hope all members will join the League of Champions.
Government relations are a large part of the OGCA mandate.
We have an opportunity to reshape laws to better the industry and
make it easier to work as a Contractor. The Lien Act Review is well
underway and the OGCA will play a role in its metamorphosis. We
look forward to working with the industry stakeholders and government to develop a fair and meaningful document. Adjudication
and prompt payment will be addressed in this review, and on the
radar will be WSIB reform. The OGCA will take a leadership role in
representing our members for fair and better rates.
The OGCA completed a two day strategic planning session
in late January of 2016. The session was attended by OGCA
