CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE By John Aquino Numerous OGCA members have achieved CORTM certification this past year and many more are in the process of receiving certification. Our long-term goal is to have all members certified. T he OGCA continuously provides its members with a high standard of quality services and constantly strives to improve the construction environment for General Contractors throughout Ontario. The Association has a large impact on the industry, which is proven in our slogan, "We Build Ontario." Being a member has many benefits to General Contractors in all aspects of their business. Part of being a member is the value of having the OGCA involved in major issues that impact the industry. The OGCA follows a three-year strategic plan, and sets goals and priorities in order to constantly evolve. By keeping such high standards, the Association has the ability to effectively assist member firms with their varying issues and concerns. Some of the accomplishments that were achieved over the past year during my term as Chairman are: 9th Bi-Annual Construction Symposium The Association's 9th Construction Symposium was successfully held in April at Blue Mountain. The number of attendees was the highest of all symposiums with 750 members, partners and sponsors present. The event included a number of very informative and wellpresented sessions. The event also included the presentation of the Ontario Builder Awards, which recognized some of our members' significant accomplishments. A special highlight of the evening was Mike Bullard's entertaining presentation of the awards, rewarding winners and runners up in all categories. 76th Annual AGM - Las Vegas The 76th Annual AGM was held in the exciting city of Las Vegas. All member firms, strategic partners and sponsors had a great time attending tours and attractions such as Cirque du Soleil, informative business sessions and had an overall enjoyable time. Leadership Day A safety-focused Leadership Day was held in February and was well attended by our members. The topics for the day were COR TM, accident prevention and safety, including the rolling out of the new Working-at-Heights legislation. Labour Minister Kevin Flynn was the 6 featured guest speaker. Lawrence Quinn from Infrastructure Ontario gave a touching presentation on safety and incoming Chairman Jason Ball spoke of his firm's achievement in obtaining COR TM certification.
