PROFILE AgriTours Canada by Jeffrey Reed I t's no secret why Richard Buck, president of AgriTours Canada (Consulting) Inc. of Guelph, Ontario, is a valued member of OMCA (Ontario Motor Coach Association). Currently sitting on the Development Fund Committee, and formerly Chair of the Tour Operator Council, Buck speaks very passionately about not only OMCA, but also the travel industry. In particular, Buck is a leading Canadian agricultural tour operator, offering what he labels as specialized travel packages in "agri-culture, agri-technical, agri-educational, agri-business and agri-incentive tour programs" inbound to North America and outbound around the world. Buck juggles a myriad of daily duties, which include about 15 percent outbound business and the remainder inbound - all with an agricultural theme. His wife, Barbara, is vice president and oversees quality control, plus helps manage suppliers. Sue Mehi is inbound tour coordinator, and Paulette Strickland is bookkeeper. They also work with Dennis Death in the travel agency for outbound tours, and Dawn Corcoran for group flight bookings. In 2011, AgriTours Canada, with roots dating back to Buck's initial consulting days in 1982, partnered with Carlson Wagonlit Royal City Travel, also located in Guelph, to combine traditional travel services offered by travel agencies, but with more specialized agricultural travel planning services. In partnership with Royal City Travel, agricultural itineraries are designed by AgriTours Canada for The Road Explorer 22 Spring 2016 Royal City Travel, which then packages and sells tours to clients who request customized tours. Each tour is unique and designed specifically via requests from agricultural groups, companies and organizations. "In my case, suppliers are a lot different than other tour operators," Buck explained of his inbound business sector. "I do agriculture; others don't. I still need hotels, restaurants and buses, but agriculture is my main focus. I need everything from research and development to corporate farming, associations and clubs. And they are both my suppliers and clients, because some go on my outbound trips." Buck handles program itineraries in conjunction with client wants and needs and is hands-on with motor coach booking, while Royal City Travel
