of the sketched mines, and more. These sketches have been able to provide insight as to how mines have changed and evolved over the years. He has paid tribute to victims lost in mine-related tragedies. For example, Denis sketched the mine from the underground fire at the Hollinger, the Paymaster No. 6 shaft. He drew the place as it looked when individuals went underground to escape the Porcupine Fire. Denis's pre-approved sketches have been placed in books, articles, newsletters, posters, pamphlets, calendars, T-shirts, OUR WA Y MA K Y E first gold mine, Denis has captured the evolution of mines in his sketches. Denis's sketches capture specific mines in different time periods. From binders that Denis has put together and displayed in various locations with his sketches numbered and in transparent sleeves, inquiries have come up about additional information regarding the numbered mines, input concerning the accuracy of the images Denis produced, acquisitions of additional reference material, hearing stories from miners who worked in one Behold the hard-working spirit! His sketches have also been used in conjunction with mining-related special events like conferences, symposiums, anniversaries, Miner's Week and commemorative events. His work has been made available to tourists and in promotional events. They have also helped as a means of raising funds. Today, you can find his drawings and sketches in museums, hanging on the walls of corporate offices, bed and breakfasts, a mall, as well as in the lobby and halls of a motel in South Porcupine. Denis hopes to have his work eventually displayed in hotels, more motels, stores, restaurants, libraries, tourist venues, educational centers and homes for senior citizens. Denis wishes to increase "awareness, appreciation, knowledge and understanding of mining in Canada (past and present) and its significance in the development of Canada." He also wishes to increase "an awareness, appreciation, knowledge and understanding of the various roles that people play (directly and indirectly) as participants in the mining industry." Specifically, some of the mines (past and present) from the Porcupine Camp that have been depicted in Denis's sketches have been of Acme, Bell Creek, Croesus, Dome, Hallnor, Hoyle, Hollinger, Lake Shore, Moneta, Ross, Three Nations and many more. Upon request, Denis can provide educational copies of the publications his drawings and sketches are in, which are spread out as far as Australia to San Francisco. These books can be used for educational purposes, career opportunities and even just to glimpse the past and present views of different mines. According to Denis, he was particularly pleased to see his work used for educational purposes in a book called More Than Free Gold, supported by the Prospectors and Developers Association. Denis welcomes the opportunity to work with others to spread the word about the mining industry. He is extremely grateful to those he has crossed paths with to share his sketches. It has given him the opportunity to educate, reminisce, and openly discuss the mining industry and those involved in it.
